2022 Chevy ColoradoRedesign, Price, Specs, & Launch Date. 2022 Chevy Colorado General Motors is gearing up for the next generation of Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon as the company has announced plans to invest $ 1.5 (₤ 1.1/ EUR 1.3) billion into the upcoming pickup.
$ 1 billion (₤ 749/ EUR 899 million) will be used to increase the Wentzville truck factory in Missouri.
The funds will be used to renew the paint and body shop and general assembly area. GM also plans to buy new machinery, tools, and conveyors.
The investment will secure the work of around 4,000 employees and GM President Mark Reuss called it a “strong commitment” to the factory, city, and state of Missouri.
He added, “This is part of our comprehensive strategy to invest in growth and strengthen our US manufacturing base.”
GM refused to talk about the next-generation pickup but noted that they have sold more than 700,000 next-generation chevy colorado and Canyons in the United States since returning to the medium-sized truck segment.
The company also praised the models by helping them become “the most successful pickup truck company” in America.
While GM remains tight-lipped about pickups, previous reports have suggested the next generation of Colorado and Canyon will not appear until 2022 or newer. It’s still working and little is known about the model.
There is speculation that the next Colorado and Canyon can spawn body-on-frame SUVs.
This model is rumored to have joined the GMC ranks and is tougher than crossovers like Acadia and Terrain.
That has still not been confirmed and reports later suggested the SUV was kept next to the 32XX medium-size truck platform which was originally scheduled to support the next Colorado and Canyon.
Instead, future models will reportedly use the latest version of their current architecture.
Of course, it is not official and we may have to wait several years before we find out what GM is planning.
2022 Chevy Colorado Engine
The updated Chevrolet 2021 Colorado pickup will start reaching showrooms in the coming weeks.
The company has begun developing truck successors, and a recent report suggests buyers who want a V6 or turbodiesel under the hood need to buy relatively soon because the next-generation model won’t offer both.
Without citing sources, the enthusiastic website Muscle Car & Trucks reported that the new Colorado will tentatively come out in 2023 will lose the 3.6 liter V6 model and the V4 and 2.8 liters burning turbodiesel.
The entry-level 2.5-liter four-cylinder won’t return, either. Instead, the only engine on offer is the evolution of the 2.7-liter turbo that is currently available in Silverado and its GMC-marked twin, Sierra.
This will shift through a 10-speed automatic transmission. It makes sense to assume that the rear and four-wheel drive variants will still be on the menu.
When it’s bolted in the Silverado engine bay, the 2.7-liter develops 310 horsepower and 348 pound-foot dashing torque.
It is still too early to know whether the numbers will carry over to Colorado, or if Chevrolet will adjust them differently.
GMC Canyon, which is closely related to Colorado, will follow the same route to downsizing.
Chevrolet has not commented on the report, and official details about future generations of Colorado are rare and still few.
Unverified release date of 2023 shows that the truck can land in the showroom during the model year 2024.
Chevrolet will not be the only medium-sized truck manufacturer who believes that forced induction is a suitable replacement for displacement if the rumors are accurate.
Ford Ranger, which competes in the same segment as the Chevrolet colorado zr2/ Canyon duo, exclusively receives a 2.3 liter four turbocharged to 270 horsepower and 310 pound-foot torque.
This is complemented by the same basic 10-speed automatic transmission that is expected to be received by competitors made by General Motors in the next decade; Ford joined with its mortal enemy to develop this unit.
Nissan will take a different approach to the segment when it finally replaces Frontier.
The 2020 model inaugurates the naturally aspirated 3.8 liter V6 developed for its successor, which will debut as a 2021 model.
It’s rated 310 horsepower and 281 pound-foot torque and is bolted to a nine-speed automatic transmission. We don’t know whether the four cylinders will return as entry-level options.
The Toyota segment leader made the four and six-cylinder options available in Tacoma. Both naturally aspirated.
We hope the engine palette will be overhauled again when a new model arrives in the showroom, and a wave of downsizing sweeping the ranks of the company is a sign the V6 might not live to see another generation.
On the other hand, we hope the next Chevy Colorado powertrain consists of a four-cylinder engine, although six cylinders can also be offered as an option.

We hope that the 2022 Chevrolet Colorado receives a very small update after receiving some more important updates for the 2021 model year.

While Colorado is a popular truck, the lack of modern driver assistance and substandard interior quality reduces its desire.
For that reason, we would recommend a model that makes Chevy unique among medium-sized pickups.
That’s the wide-bodied ZR2 that is jacked up. Sure, this is the most expensive trim level, but it has several exclusive types of equipment that includes exotic spool valve shocks, electronic locking differences on the two axles, and one of the wilder fronts ends we see in modern trucks.
We will choose a crew cabin for the larger rear seat and keep the standard V-6 versus the diesel pricier option.
We will also choose Kinetic Blue paint and a spare tire carrier mounted on the bed because we like how it looks.
High-performance air intake and cat’s back exhaust from the Power package will be our final list too.
We hope that the next generation Chevy Colorado will use the new GM 31XX-2 platform, which will be a slightly updated version of the 31XX platform used by Colorado today.
