2022 Chevy Traverse Release Date, Updates, & Pictures

2022 Chevy Traverse Release Date, Updates, & Pictures. 2022 Chevy Traverse seeing the compact SUV eventually gaining popularity, the three-line crossover is still big business for the automaker. They are very important for domestic manufacturers who are putting all their eggs into the SUV business.

That’s why the debut of the 2018 second-generation Chevrolet Traverse feels like a missed opportunity. While there’s nothing bad to mention about it, it’s also nothing unique.

Now, midway through its lifecycle, the refreshed Chevrolet Traverse 2022 appears to be reversing the scenario with a few updates to stay competitive.

2022 Chevy Traverse Drivetrain

The most quickly recognizable change is the front, which now bears a striking resemblance to the Chevy Blazer.

The Traverse also borrows the blazer’s sleek, streamlined headlamp design, which incorporates turn signals into daytime running lights. It’s a cool visual trick that defines the signature Traverse headlights even from afar. The taillights have also been redesigned to carry a new, narrower theme.

Interior additions are mainly limited to technology offerings. The central touch screen is loaded with the latest infotainment system from Chevrolet, which supports wireless integration of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphones.

Some previously optional driving aids– including forwarding collision warning and lane departure warning– are now standard on all models.

This change overcomes some of the current shortcomings of Traverse, but many possible drawbacks remain. These include low-quality interior materials, poor rear visibility, and a rigid price tag.

With stiff competition from newer and better rivals such as the Kia Telluride and Hyundai Palisade, the 2022 Traverse upgrade may not be enough to set it apart from the rest.

2022 Chevy Traverse Engine

A standard 310 horsepower V-6 engine gives the Traverse the legs and a nine-speed automatic transmission that smoothly shifts gears inconspicuously. The V-6 pulled hard; The Traverse we tested proved to be the fastest in its class.

The cab is so quiet you need to glance at the tachometer to make sure the engine is running while in traffic lights. By the way, the Traverse feature is probably the smoothest auto stop/start feature we’ve tested.

When parking or maneuvering at low speed, Traverse senses every measure of its size. However, increase the speed, and the big Chevy feels smaller than the original– ready, if not very athletic.

Steering power is low, but the system is precise and makes it easy to target large SUVs. The Traverse suspension is adjusted for a good balance between handling and ride comfort.

2022 Chevy Traverse Redesign

The Chevrolet Traverse is slated to receive a refresh in 2021, due to complications caused by the Coronavirus pandemic, a change that was pushed to the 2022 model year.

As such, the Traverse received a mid-cycle enhancement (MCE), otherwise known as an update, refresh, or facelift, for the second-generation Traverse fifth model year, which comprised updates to its interior, powertrain and exterior.

Expected Changes, Updates, New Features

Here’s what we hoped for the Chevrolet Traverse 2022:

  • New front and rear fascia
  • Interior improvements, especially in the cockpit
  • The introduction of more USB ports throughout the cab
  • New exterior color
  • Changes to equipment groups and packages
  • The Chevrolet Traverse 2022 will continue to be offered as a full-size four-door crossover utility vehicle (CUV) with three rows of seats.

2022 Chevy Traverse Interior

The Traverse provides spacious accommodation for seven or eight passengers, including the third row for adults. Chevrolet’s six-tier model lineup allows Traverse to reach a broad market and appeal to a wide range of buyers.

The ingredients in the upscale High Country were good but a little less than expected given that version’s high price tag. Fold the third-row and second seats and become the cargo transporter champion with more space than its competitors.

Six carry-on suitcases fit behind the third row, which means successfully carrying people and their belongings. It also offers first-in-class cubby line storage.

Chevy endows the Traverse cab with multiple USB ports and an easy-to-use infotainment system with colorful graphics, a high-mount touchscreen, and standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capabilities.

The infotainment system that responds quickly to user input and standard Wi-Fi hotspots makes it a tech-savvy SUV.

2022 Chevy Traverse Exterior

Chevrolet is giving its three-line Traverse makeover. While the updates are mostly cosmetic, there are also improvements to the family SUV’s feature content.

It was originally intended to be a 2021 model, but in April Chevrolet announced it had moved to the 2022 model year.

The Traverse’s front grille is reshaped, leaving room for a larger lower bumper area with a dark section at the very bottom. This gives the Traverse a more truck-like appearance.

The narrower headlights feature integrated turn signal and daytime running lights, and the multi-element LED taillights give the rear an extra look.

The new four-wheel designs complement the exterior styling changes, but so far Chevy has only shown us two of the four designs– shown in the photos here on the High Country and Premier models.

2022 Chevy Traverse EPA

Assess Traverse with an estimated EPA grade average fuel economy figure, and you’ll do that with only half the information.

In our real-world tests, the all-wheel-drive Traverse High Country delivered 27 mpg, the best road fuel consumption among its main competitors.

2022 Chevy Traverse Price and Release Date

Pricing and official releases are yet to be announced, but buyers should anticipate slight increases in the base price of each of the various Traverse trim levels. The 2020 models start at $ 30,995 for basic L front-wheel drive and go up to $ 54,395 for High Country all-wheel drive.

We expect the current second-generation Chevrolet Traverse to remain in production for at least 2022, 2023, and perhaps 2024 model years, and the all-new future Chevrolet Traverse will launch around the 2024 model year.

The mid-range LT model represents the best value among the Traverse’s six trim lineups as it adds good stuff like a second-row captain’s seat, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, SiriusXM satellite radio, fog lights, heated exterior mirrors., and roof rails.

If you want something a little fancier without resorting to the much more expensive Premier or High Country models, the LT trim offers a Leather package that adds a power-adjustable passenger seat, heated front seats, leather seats, strong rear lift doors., and others.
